Have an upcoming surgery? Have no idea who your anesthesia provider will be? This is a common scenario amongst people throughout the United States. It is relatively easy to decide on whether or not you like/trust your surgeon, however how do they decide who is going to be doing your anesthesia? Often times anesthesia groups are contracted with a hospital, sometimes the hospital employees their own anesthesia providers, and given the current state of anesthesia; it is not uncommon that you will be anesthetized by someone that is working as a locum tenens employee.

Be prepared for the day of surgery and know what options should be available to you. Discuss your case with a board certified anesthesiologist and know the questions you should be asking before you even meet whomever is assigned to provide your anesthesia.
